These preventative workshops kicked off this morning with students from <strong>Year 13 and Year 10<\/strong> at <strong>Isidor Macabich Institute,<\/strong> and two Year 12 classes <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>Algarb Institute<\/strong>, both located in Ibiza.<\/p>\n<p>The sessions, led by <strong>Xaqueline Perry<\/strong>, president of IFCC, and <strong>Berno Kiberd<\/strong>, vice-president, focused on <strong>debunking the perceived safety<\/strong> of using vapes and informing about the potential <strong>short and long-term effects on health and the environment.<\/strong> \u201cOur goal is not to frighten about the effects of vaping but <strong>to raise awareness, inform, and make an impact on young people<\/strong> so they do not think it is harmless,\u201d Perry emphasised.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6533\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ibizacancer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/01-charla-educativa-riesgos-vapeo-ifcc.jpg\" alt=\"Educational talk on the risks of vaping - IFCC\" width=\"1692\" height=\"1128\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the talks, the IFCC representatives presented <strong>alarming data<\/strong> showing that, although vaping is often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, it actually \u201c<strong>carries significant health risks<\/strong>.\u201d &#8220;80% of current lung cancer cases are linked to smoking tobacco, and it is estimated that, in the future, the same percentage of cases will be linked to vaping,\u201d the local NGO warned.<\/p>\n<p>IFCC also highlighted the <strong>environmental impact<\/strong> of regular vaping device use, as \u201c<strong>they cannot be recycled<\/strong> due to the toxins they contain.\u201d \u201cThese devices have an <strong>estimated degradation time of about a thousand years<\/strong>,\u201d they underscored, reminding that, currently, \u201cwe are aware of the effects of tobacco and cigarette butts because we are familiar with their consequences, however<strong>, the effects of vaping are still unknown and we must remain vigilant<\/strong>.\u201d \u201cVaping is following a similar path to tobacco, and we don&#8217;t need to wait a decade to realise it&#8217;s harmful to our health; the current evidence is already sufficient,&#8221; <strong>Berno Kiberd<\/strong> noted.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6535\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ibizacancer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/02-charla-educativa-riesgos-vapeo-ifcc.jpg\" alt=\"Educational talk on the risks of vaping -
