The beach of Cala Llonga hosts ‘Cinema at the Beach’ – a free and charitable family film series starting this Sunday

The open-air film series at Cala Llonga beach, ‘Cinema at the Beach’, returns this summer with the screening of the animated film ‘Despicable Me 4’ (2024) this Sunday at 9:00 p.m.. An initiative sponsored by Santa Eulària des Riu Town Council and Cinema Paradiso, in collaboration with the Cala Llonga Neighbourhood Association, it will run throughout July and August with a schedule of three open-air family film screenings. Admission is free, and all proceeds from the sale of soft drinks, as well as donations made by attendees, will go entirely to the Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association (IFCC).

The charity cinema series in Cala Llonga in aid of IFCC will feature three screenings of some of the most successful animated films of recent years. This family-friendly activity will begin this Sunday, 20 July, with the screening of ‘Despicable Me 4’ (2024), followed on 10 August by ‘Encanto’ (2021), and concluding on 23 August with ‘Coco’ (2017), rounding off a season full of cinema, fun, and solidarity. All screenings will begin at 9:00 p.m. and will be shown in English with Spanish subtitles, except for ‘Encanto’ (2021), which will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles.

IFCC would like to thank Santa Eulària des Riu Town Council, as well as the residents of Cala Llonga and Cinema Paradiso, for their support of this charitable initiative, stating: “Thanks to their efforts, we can once again enjoy open-air cinema on this wonderful beach while raising funds to continue our Association’s mission: to improve the quality of life of cancer patients in the Pitiusas and their families.”

‘Despicable Me 4’ (2024)

Despicable Me 4 (2024) is the fourth instalment of the “Despicable Me” saga, produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It premiered in the United States on 3 July 2024. This animated comedy film is directed by Patrick Delage and Chris Renaud, and features a star-studded cast including Steve Carell, Will Ferrell, Joey King, Sofía Vergara, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Chloe Fineman, Stephen Colbert, Pierre Coffin, and J.P. Karliak.

In this new film, Gru, Lucy and their daughters welcome a new member to the family, Gru Junior, who seems intent on teaching his father a lesson. Gru must face a new enemy, Maxime Le Mal, and his partner Valentina, forcing the family into hiding in order to confront them with renewed strength.
