Runner Ellie Hocking, creator of the ‘Every Step Counts’ challenge, has raised 2,514 euros for the Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association, IFCC, after completing the challenge of covering 80 kilometres around the island of Ibiza during August. The initiative arose following her father’s cancer diagnosis, with the aim of using her passion for sport to raise awareness of the work carried out by this association in support of people affected by cancer and their families.
The 22-year-old decided to turn her personal experience into a sporting and charitable challenge that would allow her to involve other runners from the island and join forces in support of this cause. “This initiative began as a personal motivation following my father’s cancer diagnosis, and I wanted to use my passion for running to raise awareness of the work IFCC does with cancer patients and their families,” Hocking explains. To publicise the challenge and share her progress, Ellie Hocking documented her training, the kilometres covered and the various activities she undertook on social media through the ‘Every Step Counts’ profile. She also collaborated with clubs such as Music Run Club and Running Ibiza, and the restaurant Rauxa Ibiza, which helped encourage other runners from the island to join the challenge and extend the reach of this charitable initiative.
This adventure culminated with a final five kilometres through the Cala Llonga area, the last stretch of the 80 kilometres she had set as her goal. Thanks to the participation and support received throughout August, the athlete managed to exceed the intended target and raise 2,514 euros.
The Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association, IFCC, praised Ellie Hocking’s initiative and thanked her for her commitment, as well as all the clubs, organisations and individuals who joined ‘Every Step Counts’. They also emphasised that the funds raised will enable the association to continue developing its programmes and support services for cancer patients and their families in the Pityusic Islands.
About the Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association
The Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association, IFCC, has been helping patients and their families in the Pityusic Islands throughout their cancer treatment for 25 years, as well as providing medical supplies and leaflets and funding travel and treatment outside the islands.
This year, IFCC, in collaboration with Santa Eulària des Riu Town Council, launched a pilot project called Hospice, a support service for people with cancer in the final stage of their lives and their families, provided free of charge to cancer patients in the municipality with a life expectancy of less than twelve months.
In 2025, the Association funded a new car for the Palliative Care Unit, as well as 46 new armchairs and new side tables for the waiting room of the oncology day hospital and the radiology room. IFCC is also continuing to promote a new campaign among the islands’ residents to strengthen awareness of bowel cancer screening, with the aim of improving the participation rate, which stood at just 28% in 2024.
In recent years, the Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association, IFCC, has donated reclining chairs for Oncology patients at Hospital Can Misses, as well as televisions and headphones for the chemotherapy room at this leading medical centre in Ibiza and Formentera.
Thanks to donations from its many members and the charity events it organises, IFCC has also funded the decoration of both the oncology nursing clinic and the Palliative Care Unit clinic, the purchase of an endoscope for the Hospital of Formentera, the launch of bowel cancer and lymphoedema screening projects in the Pityusic Islands, and several vehicles for the Palliative Care Unit.
