There is music that is heard and music that is felt. The International Classical Music Festival Ibiza Concerts, supported by the Consell d´Eivissa and the City Council of Ibiza, has closed its eighth edition with an absolute success of audience and full capacity during its three days, held from August 29 to 31 at the Cloister of the Dominicans in Dalt Vila. An event that has made classical music come alive, be sung, and even danced.
Three evenings in which the virtuosity of the prestigious violinist and artistic director of the Festival, Linus Roth, and the exceptional sound of his Stradivarius “Dancla” from 1703 have joined the energy and talent of the Johann Sebastian Rio Orchestra, arriving from Rio de Janeiro, to build a musical bridge between Ibiza and Brazil and demonstrate that the classical repertoire can connect with the audience through a contemporary, open, and deeply emotional interpretation.
The result has surpassed the traditional concert concept. The audience in Ibiza has vibrated, sung, accompanied the rhythm, danced, and felt moved alongside the musicians, becoming at times part of a collective experience that is difficult to explain and even harder to forget.
A connection between stage and spectators that precisely summarizes the essence with which the International Classical Music Festival Ibiza Concerts was born: to bring the excellence of classical music to new audiences, eliminate barriers, and demonstrate that great works can continue to evoke strong emotions centuries after they were composed.
“This edition has been extraordinary. Seeing the Cloister full on all three nights and feeling how the audience in Ibiza surrendered in this way to the music has been profoundly moving,” highlights the violinist and artistic director of Ibiza Concerts, Linus Roth. “Our dream with SamBach was precisely this, to demonstrate that Bach, Vivaldi, samba, or bossa nova can meet in a natural way and that music does not need borders when interpreted with freedom, respect, and emotion,” he adds.
Linus Roth has recalled that Ibiza Concerts supports the work of Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer, IFCC, raising funds at each concert. “The International Classical Music Festival Ibiza Concerts has been linked to the island since its first edition, and spreading the work of this NGO that supports the needs of cancer patients and their families has always seemed essential to us, because music is also therapy; for this reason, we are also happy to invite cancer patients and IFCC volunteers to our concerts,” he asserts. In this line, the artist includes visits to hospitals and centers in his program each year to perform for cancer patients on the island in collaboration with this entity that has 25 years of history.
From Bach to Brazil under the stars of Dalt Vila
The journey began on Saturday, August 29, with ‘SamBach: From Bach to Brazilian Sambas’, the project with which Roth and the Johann Sebastian Rio Orchestra made the Violin Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach converse with arrangements inspired by samba and bossa nova.
On Sunday, The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi met the musical richness of Brazil through composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, César Guerra-Peixe, Ernani Aguiar, Sivuca, and Gadelha, creating a new bridge between European tradition and the character and vitality of Brazil.
The edition culminated last night with an explosive Brazilian Night, conceived as a celebration of the rhythms, colors, and musical diversity of the country. A closing in which the distance between stage and audience practically disappeared and that brought to their feet a completely engaged audience.
The historic Cloister of the Dominicans, under the sky of Dalt Vila, thus became one of the most unique venues to enjoy classical music in Ibiza and within the framework of an edition that consolidates the international vocation of the International Classical Music Festival Ibiza Concerts. The artistic quality of its performers, combined with a proposal capable of building bridges between cultures and generations, reaffirms Ibiza’s potential as an international cultural destination beyond its extraordinary tourist offer.
Music, culture, and commitment to Ibiza
Driven and artistically directed by Linus Roth and sponsored by the City Council of Eivissa and the Consell d’Eivissa, the International Classical Music Festival Ibiza Concerts reaches with this eighth edition a new milestone in a trajectory designed to bring together great figures from the international scene on the island and bring classical music to all audiences.
A vocation that transcends the stages. Through the Ibiza Concerts Association and in collaboration with the Ibiza and Formentera Against Cancer Association (IFCC), the project maintains its social commitment by bringing music free of charge to cancer patients and their families through concerts in hospitals and residences.
After three nights of full capacity, emotion, and an exceptional communion between artists and spectators, Ibiza Concerts bids farewell to one of its most special editions, demonstrating that classical music does not belong solely to concert halls, but can evoke, surprise, make people sing, make them dance, and achieve that hundreds of people vibrate together under the stars of Ibiza.
