The Ibiza and Formentera Association Against Cancer celebrates its 25th anniversary with a big event at Sonrojo Beach & Chiringuito.

This charitable event, which took place last Sunday, May 24, featured a special menu and a charity raffle to raise funds for oncology patients in the Pitiusas.

The Ibiza and Formentera Association Against Cancer, IFCC, organized a fundraising lunch last Sunday, May 24, at Sonrojo Beach & Chiringuito, located in Cala Llonga, to commemorate 25 years of accompanying and supporting oncology patients in the Pitiusas. A charitable gathering that included the participation of 84 diners, where gastronomy, live music by the band The Rosemary Family, and a charity raffle came together to support oncology patients in the Pitiusas.

Este evento contó con la presencia de la concejala de Acción Social, Familia e Igualdad del Ayuntamiento de Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Marilina Serra, del concejal de Economía y Hacienda del Ayuntamiento de Sant Antoni de Portmany, Antonio Marí, y del director del Área de Salud de Ibiza y Formentera, ASEF, Eduardo Escudero.

La presidenta de la Asociación Ibiza y Formentera Contra el Cáncer (IFCC), Elizabeth Gail Fear, ofreció durante la comida un emotivo discurso de agradecimiento en el que conmemoró los 25 años de trayectoria de esta ONG pitiusa y reconoció el apoyo recibido durante todo este tiempo por parte de instituciones, empresas colaboradoras, socios y voluntarios. “Quiero agradecer profundamente a todas las personas que nos han acompañado durante estos 25 años, a nuestras maravillosas voluntarias, a todo el comité ejecutivo de IFCC y, especialmente, a Berno, por ser el corazón de esta asociación”, añadió Elizabeth Gail Fear.

El dinero recaudado durante este evento irá destinado a financiar los diferentes proyectos que la Asociación mantiene actualmente en marcha, entre ellos el servicio un servicio de acompañamiento dirigido a personas con cáncer en la fase final de su vida y a sus familiares, Hospice, en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de Santa Eulària des Riu, que se ofrece de manera gratuita a pacientes oncológicos del municipio con una esperanza de vida inferior a doce meses. En este sentido, la presidenta de IFCC destacó que “nuestra intención es comprobar cómo funciona este primer año y poder extender el servicio lo antes posible al resto de municipios de la isla, para que más familias puedan beneficiarse de este acompañamiento tan necesario”.

In recent years, the Ibiza and Formentera Association Against Cancer, IFCC, has funded a new car for the Palliative Care Unit, donated reclining chairs for Oncology patients at Can Misses Hospital, 46 new chairs and side tables for the waiting room of the oncology day hospital and the radiology room, as well as televisions and headphones for the chemotherapy room of this reference center in Ibiza and Formentera.

At the same time, IFCC continues to promote a new campaign among the society of the islands to strengthen the promotion of colon cancer detection, with the aim of improving the participation rate, which was only 28% in 2024.

This event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Ibiza and Formentera Association Against Cancer concluded with a charity raffle with prizes donated by collaborating companies from the island, among which are Hyde Ibiza, Mondrian Ibiza, Nami Grill & Sushi Restaurant, Royal Plaza Hotel, Ibiza Clinic, Autos Isla Blanca, The Wild Asparagus Restaurant, Fet a mà, BeDrinks, Cantonada Ibiza, From Ibiza with Love, Frutos Secos Ibiza, and Familia Marí Mayans.

Solidarity food at Sonrojo Beach & Chiringuito

The restaurant Sonrojo Beach & Chiringuito, located between Ibiza city and Santa Eulària des Riu, offered attendees a complete experience by the Cala Llonga beach, with a solidarity menu designed to celebrate this special occasion in a cozy and authentic setting.

Since its opening in 2023, Sonrojo is integrated into the Ennismore universe, with Hyde Ibiza and Mondrian Ibiza as references on the island, reaffirming its commitment to the Ibiza and Formentera Association Against Cancer and other local initiatives that promote the social fabric of the island.

The meal began with a tapa of paella, a shot of salmorejo, and a ham croquette as an appetizer, followed by several shared starters, such as Russian salad with shrimp and tuna belly, Sonrojo bravas with almonds, and Andalusian-style squid with citrus mayonnaise. For the main course, attendees could choose between grilled Ibizan chicken thigh with herbed mashed potatoes and fresh chimichurri, grilled sea bass with creamy carrot and sautéed microgreens, or grilled confit artichokes with avocado cream and parsley. Finally, the menu concluded with a selection of desserts to add a sweet touch to this charitable celebration.

During the event, the band The Rosemary Family, consisting of Mario Romero on guitar and lead vocals, Alfonso Hernández on electric bass and backing vocals, and Samuel de Lara on percussion, were responsible for entertaining this gathering with a mix of Latin rhythms such as salsa and ska, moving through blues and rock and roll, creating a festive and summery atmosphere with their live music.
